Nuri
Words are powerful. Tell a flower “I love you” and it grows. “I hate you,” it shrivels (see IKEA experiment).
It’s the same with people. Negative words break someone while positive words make someone. Today, too many negative words are shared. Especially with social media and its anonymity, more than ever we see negative words plague interactions rather than encouragement.
As a result, my Co-Founder Matthew and I built Nuri – an app where people can share compliments with one another – in the hopes of healing all the hurtful scars one may carry due to negative words.
Nuri is an affirmation app. Named after our always-fluffy disoriented yet happy bichon, Nuri hopes to give users the same amount of happiness that he brings to the real world.
With Nuri, you can schedule affirmations and have “you can do it!” pop up on your phones throughout the day. You are encouraged to use your voice to say your affirmations out loud.
With Nuri, you can also send compliments to your friends. We believe that this additional human touch makes your words more genuine and can have a greater impact.
Finally, each time you say an affirmation out loud, you are rewarded with Zoomies. You can purchase gifts using Zoomies to send to your friends, spreading even more positivity.
We are currently testing Nuri on the WashU campus (the app is available on TestFlight). We'll be making adjustments according to user feedback and eventually publish Nuri onto the AppStore and expand to other campuses.
