SnackFast
When I was in high school, we had a problem during every break time...
A SWARM of people will crowd around our tiny snack bar, which sells popcorn chicken, milk tea, and many other Taiwanese snacks.
But because our school is K-12, sometimes little kids would want to get snacks but have trouble pushing their way through the older students. Teachers are also hesitant to put themselves in the crowd. Sometimes, even if I run straight down to the snack bar after class, the popcorn chicken would be sold out.
Around that time, ordering food online through Uber was becoming more and more popular. So I thought – why not create an online-ordering system for the snack bar?
So I started to build one. Having no coding experience back then, I used what I'm familiar with – Google Forms, Google Sheets, and Google Sites. With some extra Googling help, I figured out how to send an email to the snack bar workers whenever a new order is submitted, created a spreadsheet that makes it easy to see the new orders, and made an online menu for the snack bar.
We also filmed a promotional video (see video on the left), and did a test run for a couple of weeks. However, I was graduating soon and we ran SnackFast in our school's business club. Due to school policy, we were not allowed to make a profit, and many students who worked on SnackFast with me were graduating too. So SnackFast eventually fizzled out of existence. Nevertheless, this was my first entrepreneurial experience and was very rewarding.
